HEREβS HOW THE LEARN-APPLY CYCLE HELPED ME MASTER LANGUAGE AND FEEL AT HOME IN A NEW COUNTRY
24 years ago, I moved to the U.S. after middle school in Korea.
I was excited, but life as a foreign student was way harder than I expected...
I thought Iβd be fluent in English after a year or two, but I ended up using the same basic phrases over and over.
Most of the time, I felt like I couldnβt speak at all.
I had almost no American friends and mostly hung out with other Koreans.
Over time, I started feeling like an outsider, stuck living a second-class life.
It was frustrating and depressing.
After living in the U.S. for over 10 years, the phrase I used most often was βCan I get a foot-long Italian BMT?β at Subway...
And I didnβt have any real American friends.
Then, I got a chance to go to grad school in Canada.
I decided this time would be different...
I wanted to stop feeling sorry for myself and hiding from people.
I promised myself Iβd meet as many people as possible and stay connected to communities.
I joined English conversation meetups and found communities for international students and foreigners like me.
I even moved into a community house with Canadians and started going to a Canadian church.
The results were amazing...
In just 1-2 years, my English improved more than it had in 13 years in the U.S.
I also made tons of friendsβboth locals and internationals.
For the first time, I felt like I belonged...
My whole life changed.
I became a leader in the communities I joined and later got a job helping international students at a Canadian university.
Through all this, I realized something important:
The key to learning a language and making friends is
REAL CONVERSATION.
It doesnβt matter how long you study or how much grammar you know.
Actual conversations with native speakers are completely different...
Itβs not just about words and grammarβitβs about timing, expressions, tone, and so much more.
You have to practice with real people to get better.
Itβs like trying to learn tennis from a book. Without playing with someone else, you wonβt improve.
But just throwing yourself into conversations isnβt enough...
You need a balance between learning (input) and practicing (output).
Thatβs the most efficient way to improve.
The key is to learn useful phrases (Learn), apply them in real life (Apply)...
And then go back and refine what youβve learned (Learn again), and try again (Apply again).
This is what I call the Learn-Apply Cycle.
Itβs how I improved my English in Canada, and it changed my life.
Later, I got certified to teach English (TESL) and started teaching others.
Now, Iβm back in Korea, teaching conversation classes and building a multicultural community.
I also run language and culture exchange events to help others connect, just like I did.
The MAC Program was born out of my experiences and the amazing people and communities Iβve been a part of.
My hope is that it helps people not just learn a language, but build real, meaningful connections and open doors to new possibilities in life.
IMAGINE WHAT THE LEARN-APPLY CYCLE COULD DO FOR YOU THIS YEARβ¦
If youβre living in Korea, struggling to communicate and connect, itβs easy to feel stuck and isolated.
β You canβt afford to keep feeling lost in conversations, missing out on whatβs being said around you.
β You canβt afford to let another year pass without making real friends who understand and support you.
β You canβt afford to stay stagnant in your career because of language barriers, watching others move ahead while youβre left behind.
β And you canβt afford to continue feeling like an outsider, never truly fitting in or feeling at home in the place where you live.
But it doesnβt have to be this way.
Imagine confidently speaking Korean, forming deep connections with locals, and finally feeling like you belong in Korea.
Imagine advancing in your career, accessing opportunities you never thought possible.
The MAC Program can make this your reality.
Let me help you break free from the frustration and isolation.
Take the first step towards the life youβve been dreaming of.

Youβll spend a few hours each week learing through Mini Class and participating in the activities. The program is designed to fit into your busy schedule while still providing effective learning and social integration.
Yes! The MAC Program is specifically designed to help you connect with locals. By participating in group activities with both Korean and non-Korean participants, youβll have plenty of opportunities to build meaningful relationships.
Itβs normal to feel nervous, but the MAC Program is all about creating a supportive and encouraging environment. Youβll be practicing with others who are also learning, and youβll receive positive feedback and guidance to help build your confidence.
Absolutely not! The MAC Program combines learning with fun, real-life activities. You wonβt be stuck in a classroomβthis is about applying what you learn in the real world, with real people, in enjoyable and interactive settings.
No special materials are required. Just bring yourself, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and participate!
We strongly recommend the mini classes because theyβre very effective. However, we understand that some may already have high language skills and donβt need the extra help. In that case, we allow up to 2 people per circle to join activities only. For this option, we offer an activities-only plan for 100,000β© per month. If youβre interested, please contact us via chat or phone.
Learning a language for real-life communication takes time, so itβs best to be patient and enjoy the process. Hereβs what you can generally expect: after 1 year, youβll be able to form basic sentences and express yourself, even if you stumble a bit. After 2 years, youβll start speaking with more ease and confidence. By the 3rd year, youβll be able to have deeper conversations on simple topics.
On the other hand, making local Korean friends can happen right away through our activities! Once you connect with them, you'll gain access to a wealth of language, cultural, and local knowledge. Plus, having friends to practice with helps you improve your language skills even faster. So, just take it step by step, and enjoy the journey!
Simply click the button below, sign up for the MAC Program, and we'll be in contact with you to schedule your first Mini Class and guide you about the upcoming activities.
